John Burns Editor/Trainer
I have been a professional FCP editor and trainer for over 20 years.
“My goal is to teach you Final Cut Pro in the easiest way possible. So you can understand and use your new knowledge, to get your project done and looking better than you thought it could.”
n the mid-1980s, I began my journey in film production by editing and shooting super 8 film. Later, during the late 1980s, I transitioned to working with 3/4-inch tape. However, it was in 1990 that I truly embraced the world of non-linear editing when I discovered AVID.
My passion for technology led me to focus primarily on editing rather than shooting. After gaining several years of experience with AVID, I decided to share my knowledge. Unlike some trainers who prioritized showcasing their expertise without truly teaching, I aimed to train people in a way that resonated with their understanding.
In 2000, I encountered Final Cut Pro (FCP) and was impressed by its similarities to AVID, all at a fraction of the cost. Inspired by this discovery, I established my studio, Final Cut Pro Classes, Inc., in New York City in 2001. We provided training on FCP and successfully edited numerous projects using this powerful tool.
Unfortunately, the pandemic forced us to lose our physical studio space. Undeterred, I adapted to the new normal and now offer online training sessions via Zoom, providing a personalized experience akin to having a trainer right beside you.
