Multicam editing lets you cut between several cameras the way a live TV director would. It’s ideal for interviews, podcasts, concerts, and events, once your angles are synced properly.

Creating a multicam clip

Select all the clips from your cameras (and any separate audio) in the browser, then choose File › New › Multicam Clip. Let Final Cut Pro sync the angles using audio. It works best when every camera recorded sound, even if you only use one track.

My angles won’t sync

Audio sync fails when cameras recorded very little sound or very different sound. Make sure the right clips are included, try syncing by timecode or by marker, and use the Angle Editor (double-click the multicam clip) to nudge any angle into place manually.

Switching between angles

Open the Angle Viewer (Shift-Command-7) and play the timeline. Press number keys 1–9 to cut to that angle as you watch. Press Option and a number to swap the angle of the current section without adding a cut. You can tidy up every edit point afterward.

Video from one camera, audio from another

In the Angle Viewer you can switch video and audio separately, so you can keep a clean mic recording running while cutting between camera angles.

Set up your multicam edit together

Book a one-to-one Zoom class and we’ll sync your cameras and cut your multicam edit together, step by step.
