Most social video is watched with the sound off and on a phone. Captions and the right shape for each platform make a big difference to how many people watch to the end.
Adding captions
Recent versions of Final Cut Pro can transcribe speech into captions automatically. Select your clips and choose the Transcribe to Captions command, then check the text carefully. You can also add a caption manually (Option-C) or import an existing SRT or iTT file.
Burning captions into the video
Some platforms read caption files and some don’t. When you export, use the Roles settings to choose whether captions are embedded as a separate track or burned into the picture, so they always show.
Vertical video for Instagram, TikTok, and Shorts
Create a project with a vertical resolution, such as 1080×1920, or duplicate your finished horizontal edit and change its format. Smart Conform can reframe clips automatically to keep people in shot. Then adjust any shots it got wrong.
One edit, many formats
Finish your main version first, then use Duplicate Project As to create square and vertical versions. That way you only edit once, and adjust framing and titles for each platform.
Get your video ready for every platform
In a one-to-one Zoom class we’ll caption your video and create versions for YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok from your own edit.
